Double Handed Sailing
Here at RS Sailing
, we pride ourselves in designing boats that will capture the hearts of young and budding sailors at the very beginning of their sailing journey and through our range of training and racing dinghies, paving the way for whatever pathway they choose. Whichever route an RS Sailor opts for, they can expect challenge, adventure, friends for life and a reliable boat that serves their purpose.
For many, sailing is an opportunity to escape to the water with a friend, have a laugh, embrace the challenge and as a team get better at doing a sport they mutually love. It’s a lifestyle and an opportunity for exhilaration, triumph and (sometimes!) frustration powered only by the elements. For those of us that are quickly bored by our own company, or who get a buzz from working in a tight team, double handed sailing is the way forward.
At junior level, the RS Feva
is the perfect platform to teach youngsters the independence, communication and teamwork that come hand in hand with double handed sailing. It teaches skills that are invaluable to life as well as transferable to almost any form of sailing. Its RS Comptec PE3 construction means the boat is strong and durable; perfect for learning in without losing performance. Its asymmetric spinnaker and battened ‘XL’ mainsail upgrade offers power and exhilarating speed in the breeze, while making it the most popular modern double handed junior boat on the market with exceptional turn outs at International racing regattas.
Many young RS Feva sailors aspire to the ‘grown up’ RS200
class which is perhaps best known in the sailing world for its stand out socials and partying at racing events along with the friendly and welcoming vibe customary at any RS event! The RS200 is a one design, easy to sail hiking boat of 4.2m long. It offers exciting performance downwind, while being forgiving and easy to sail. It is easy to maintain and small speed differences between boats makes the racing second to none. The RS200 is the boat for everyone and in a male dominant sport is also very popular with all ladies teams and couples.
In line with our belief that sailing should be accessible to be enjoyed by everyone, the RS Venture KEEL
has been updated to include the optional Sailability pack. There are systems available to meet the needs of sailors with a range of disabilities, while the asymmetric spinnaker and reefable main does not compromise in performance. Alternatively, the boat can be set up so suit a family or small group of people looking for a safe and spacious boat perfect for local adventures.
, with its single trapeze, powered up main and asymmetric spinnaker delivers fabulous racing performance complemented by a stable and manageable hull. The boat offers a vibrant racing fleet in Europe and is certainly lives up to the legendary RS socials; perfect for youth sailors progressing from the RS Feva, couples and friends looking for some fun on the water with a challenge.
At the high performance end of our double handed range, the RS800
is the fastest and most challenging of the bunch. Like it’s single handed sister ship, the RS700
, it offers weight equalised performance by enforcing lead and different trapeze rack settings based on crew leverage. This class rule allows for tightly matched racing between a range of sailors from all girl teams, couples and larger men all with the commonality of the desire for the adrenaline rush that this twin trapeze asymmetric skiff class offers.
