RYA Onboard Conference...

One year on from RS becoming an Official Supplier to the RYA Onboard Scheme, it was great to be at the conference last week. It certainly was inspiring to meet all of you who do so much to promote sailing to children country wide, by making it accessible and offering high quality experiences.

RS were proud to sponsor the inaugural ‘RS Sailing RYA Onboard Achievement Awards’, as well as unveiling our commitment to the 2010 Onboard Festival season. In addition to the RS Feva’s and Tera’s that toured the country during 2009, clubs will also have the option to use the RS Q’BA (pronounced; ‘cuba’).

For those of you not there, do get in touch with either myself or your local OB Development Officer to find out how you can make the most of our ‘Demo Fleets’ and bespoke pricing packages for OB Clubs.

Left to right- Adam McGovern, Liz Wrigglesworth and Stuart Jones.

RYA London RS Feva Festival...
50 kids, 25 boats, 20 enthusiastic volunteers/parents, 5 top coaches and as much sun, wind and rain as you can shake a stick at...it could only have been an RS Feva Festival.

Queen Mary SC was host to the latest event over the weekend of 31 Oct/1 Nov. Since the RS Feva was adopted as the double handed choice for the London Youth Games, the RYA have been working closely with the London Borough’s and sailing clubs to improve both the accessibility and standard of sailing in the City. On the evidence of this most recent event, all involved are doing a smashing job.

Saturday greeted us with light winds, allowing all sailors to get some on land coaching before hitting the water. Launching 25 Feva’s down the steep sides of Queen Mary Reservoir seemed like a somewhat daunting task. It needn’t have done however, as the number of parents, volunteers and coaches supporting this project, made the task an easy one. On water training exercises followed with an emphasis on starting, upwind sailing and using the spinnaker.

By the afternoon, skills had developed such that all 25 boats headed to the startline for a series of one-lap practice races. The control and technique shown by all the youngsters is testament to the fantastic coaching and sound infrastructure put in place Guy Malpas, Steve Mitchell and Tim Anderton of the RYA.

With racing set for Sunday, we were unfortunate that 40 knot winds sent the torrential rain in a horizontal direction. The sensible decision was taken to cancel racing and pack up for the day. Given the miserable weather, the youngsters showed a commendable amount of enthusiasm to help dismantle all 25 RS Feva’s before returning to their home clubs.

If you would like to know more or are keen to replicate the success of this project in your area, give me a call.

First RS 100 to Training Centre...

Exceptional levels of excitement are greeting the impending launch of the latest boat from the RS stable – the RS 100. You only have to witness the attendance at one of Charlie’s demo days or the interest in the Development Blog and internet Forums to realise that this boat is going to be huge.

Having long since gone past the 100 pre-order mark, Youth Afloat has become the first Training Centre to get their name on the list. Demonstrating their commitment to training at not purely an entry level, their performance fleet is also supplemented by RS 500’s.

Training Fleet Demos and Comparisons...

I am currently revamping my fleet of demo boats ready for you guys. If you are looking at replacing a fleet of boats or adding to your range, why not get me along to your club or training centre. I will be happy to bring any of the following for you to put through their paces:

RS Tera – fantastic looks and top performance, a true sailing dinghy to inspire the youngsters. Rapidly growing class internationally

RS Q’BA – spine of the sailing school. All the features you’d expect to get the kids moving through their RYA Stages. Ultra-versatile hull allows comfortable, exciting sailing for adults

RS Feva – cruising, training or racing – RS Feva sets the benchmark

RS Vision – top all rounder, training newcomers one day, racing round the cans the next . Complete with the fantastic looks you’d expect from an RS

Review section...
Read the reviews or ask for the number of a fleet user for an informal discussion about how our boats are used in your type of training environment.

These attachments can be very useful if comparing boats for your fleet. Written with feedback from unbiased sailors, they can often be the precursor for a demonstration day at your club. Click on the picture to download.

“That’s about it for now folks. My first few months with RS have absolutely flown by. It certainly has been a pleasure to not only work with a fantastic range of training boats but also with all of you who are doing a wonderful job in giving so many people great sailing experiences. Long may it continue into 2010…

As ever the phone is always on, and with the 2010 order book filling up fast, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Happy Sailing!”
