RS at the RYA Dinghy Show at Alexander Palace.

Thanks to all of you that came and saw me at the RYA Dinghy Show at Ally Pally last weekend. The fact that I did not get my sandwich and drink until 4.30 on Saturday and 3.45 on Sunday, proves how busy I was.

I am encouraged to hear from all of you, how well you think we are doing in the highly competitive Clubs and Schools market. I have worked with a number of you to really promote the fact that RS Racing is listening to the market place and is ahead of the game when it comes to tailoring our fleet deals to the individual needs of the Club or Centre.

RS Q’BA orders and demonstrations

The Dinghy Show saw the second public outing of the New RS Q’
BA. With production forecast for the end of the second week in March, many of you will get the chance to have your fleet of Q’BAs in place for the sailing season starting in April. I have been doing the rounds with our demo boat and have received much positive feedback. Orders have already been placed and the boat is expected to be in place at a number of larger outdoor centres and clubs this year so if you would like to know where the nearest one to you will be in order to have a look at the boat, contact me direct or book a demonstration.

For any of you wanting to have a demonstration of the New RS Q’BA as part of a fleet purchase, please call me to arrange a date.

The brand new smaller sister to the RS Feva will have a wide waterline beam and wide comfortable side decks encouraging both adults and youngster alike to sit out and not in. The Q’
BA will have two rig options and an optional jib for when it is being used as a double hander. Length 3.53m, Beam 1.42m and weight around 60kg. Perfect for use as the backbone of all sail training courses.

  • RS Q’BA Sport, complete with trolley and top cover - £2258.72 ex vat before volume discount is applied to fleet buyers.

  • Additional RS Q’BA Pro sail for adults and more advanced courses - £253.62 ex vat and ex volume discount.

Comparative reviews and training fleet renewals.
  • If your School, Club or Centre is looking for a part or a whole replacement of its training fleet, why not give me a call and look at organising a demonstration of the boats in our range that will suit your needs.

  • Volume discount structure available for all fleet buyers – quotes available by request.

  • Hire fleet and extended loan boats available for ongoing tests.

Call me to find out more.

All Purpose Boat prices for 2008 season.

  • RS Q’BA Sport plus Jib (slab and roller reefing options) - £2489 inc vat before fleet discount. Buy 3 Q’BA Sports plus Jib kits and get them for less than £1900 ex vat.

  • RS Feva S (Dacron main) plus Jib and Spinnaker - £3350 inc vat. Buy 3 and you will pay less than £2500 ex vat for each boat.

RS Tera Loan Fleet - Bookings still available for some of June and July.

Contact Dan for more details.
  • The 2008 booking rush has proved even more successful than last year with many clubs ringing me to see if the Tera Trailer was available for them to book.

  • Please e-mail me if you have a cadet weekend or junior regatta you would like to book the Teras for. If you know the dates now, its a good time to get in contact.

RS Academies go from strength to strength.

  • Congratulations to Rutland Watersports Centre, Youth Afloat and Stanborough Park for coming onboard as RS Academies. Your support has been very inspiring for me and I hope that the partnerships between RS and the Centres will keep developing. I now have the 10 Academies I forecast for the first 2 years and potential sites are getting in touch all the time.

  • Let me know if there are any ‘open days’ that your RS Academy is planning to host where I can send you brochures and information on the entire range of boats and maybe even prizes if you are hosting regattas on those days.

Kit Review

GRK - Personal Rescue Knife – rrp £16.95 www.ldcracingsailboats.co.uk
  • Easy to use and with a lanyard attachment, makes it possible to tie onto buoyancy aides to stop it falling into the water if pocket has not been done up properly.

  • Blade requires some lubricating occasionally as once the powder coated surface of the knife is worn away, it starts to show signs of corrosion fairly quickly. The Cutting surface remains sharp however, which is normally not the case on smaller knives like this.

GUL – Newport Coastal Jacket and High Chest Trousers

  • RRP – Trousers £80 and Jacket £100

  • Great items for any Sailing instructor or water-based outdoor job in general. Comfortable and designed for ease of use, with articulated panels which make movement easier.

  • Worth noting that if you are logoing the garments, use iron on and not embroidery. Even when sealed with latex, the material will leak slowly. A mistake I made early in the process.

For sale
  • RS Teras from £900, RS Fevas (with brand new XL mains, Masts still wrapped in plastic and brand new daggerboards) from £2850 and RS Visions from as little as £3150. Contact Paul or Richard at Portsmouth Outdoor Centre 02392 666568.

  • RS Visions and RS Teras – Competitive prices to be arranged on contacting Jim at Bradwell Outdoors in Essex on 01621 776256.

  • RS Visions – from as little as £2850. Contact Mark at Cobnor Activities Centre near Chichester 01243 572791

I also have a limited number of 2006 spec RS Teras at my disposal. £1150 inclusive of VAT which come complete with a Sport sail, Dacron pro sail, top cover and launching trolley.

I am continuing to develop a range of modifications to our fleet of Training boats and, based on your feedback, these extras are making your lives at centre and club level much easier. If you wish to discuss any potential modifications to your boats, please call me 07887 875015

Calling all RS Visionaries……we need you…

The RS Vision continues to go from strength to strength and the growth of the Yahoo Groups RS Vision forum has helped to develop a real passionate core of sailors who are keen to get to the events that we have planned for this year. Racing will be accompanied by training and all of the events will be friendly and concentrate on the spirit of the activity and not who has the most mods and best blocks on their boats. We want the RS Visionaries to be a dedicated bunch of good sports who enjoy sailing and want to be with others who do the same.

If you would like to join the RS Vision Owners Club, please get in contact with us.

2008 Events are being held at Herne Bay SC, Kent. Mount Batten Centre, Plymouth. Goring Thames SC, Reading. Contact Matt Hogben for details.

Committee members for you to contact should you wish to get involved:

RYA Regional Instructor Conferences 2008 – Practical on water sessions included…

Click here to view a pdf of the RYA Instructor Conference Dates 2008.

I have so far done 3 of the RYA conferences and there are still 6 to go so I do hope to see many of you at these days. Feedback so far has been very positive and the Coaches and trainers are working hard to provide as much of a balance between practical and theoretical training. Hands on is what its all about and for those of you wanting to try out the kit, the Trade will be there with all of the latest Dinghies and Windsurf Equipment. I’ll see you there.

Sat 29th March 2008 at Hayling Island SC - SE and S Region
Sun 30th – Thames Valley - Datchet

I hope all of you will encourage your instructors to join in on these days and make the most of all the Coaches and experience on offer. The Instructors are what will make these days a success. All conferences bar the evening one will make use of practical sessions afloat and onshore to help get the most out of the day. I will see you there. I made 6 out of 8 last year and this time round I hope to make it 8.

RS Corporate sponsorship opportunity.

Example shows how the RS Tera can be purchased by individual companies as an advertising platform but the process can be applied to all boats in the APB range with prices on enquiry. Click here for a printable pdf copy of the proposal.

Competition time and WINNERS – On the road…..

Congratulations to AJ in Aberdovey, Wales for correctly stating that I was indeed parked next to the Lifeboat station on the Beach three weeks ago and also a big thanks to Chris ‘Jaffa’ Jeffries and all those at Mumbles Yacht club in South Wales for the hospitality and general good nature. The Tea was just perfect and the company equally good.

Your prizes are on their way to you now.

My Job continues to prove highly beneficial and as my RS Training fleet continues to grow, it seems we are now giving you what you need. I’m loving meeting so many likeminded educationalists and hope it will develop into the future.

I can only do as much as you let me do so if you have any ideas for me and for the RS team, please call me.
