Wind and conditions
Garda has two regular thermal winds. A land breeze in the morning and a sea breeze in the afternoon. Due to our location, we experience stronger winds first thing in the morning, gradually dropping until the wind stops at lunch time. The afternoon wind then fills in and lasts until four/ five in the evening.

AM
Peler- wind from the north. Onshore wind with choppy conditions on the slipway, difficult to launch and use pontoon for sailors who cannot get into the boat from the slipway. Once the breakwater has been completed, there will be a sheltered place for boats to be rigged and sailors to access the boats. At the moment, sailors would only be able to launch in a light morning wind (either as it drops or on days where it’s not too strong) who are able to launch from the slipway.

PM
Ora- wind from the south. Flat water and light wind at the slipway. Easy to use pontoon, boat crane next to the pontoon which can be used for sailors. Easy launching and winds in the afternoon range between 12-18 knots, some days lighter.

Conclusion
ASWC Lake Garda would be very excited to host para sailors and believe we have a fantastic facility to enable sailors to train. We can offer everything on site and have facilities for wheelchair users to ensure all sailors can access all areas of the site. The breeze in the afternoon usually lasts up to four/ five hours and combined with our large sailing area can provide an environment for some very productive training. Until the breakwater has been installed, sailors intending to train in the morning will have to risk assess the current environment on the slipway to confirm whether or not launching in potentially choppy/ windy conditions is suitable.
