At RS, our goal is to get as many bums on boats as possible! However, we don’t just sell boats to make this happen. We strive to create classes and communities that keep people sailing for life. We try hard to support clubs all over the world and sailing activities. For example, we support the Paris Boatshow and the RS Feva, RS Cat 14 & 16 and RS Venture regattas – just to name a few!
We always partner with organisations and brands that align with our values and who are committed to growing the sport. Increasing participation in all types of sailing is a massive motivator for us across the world. Since we already know why sailing should be the top of the sport in the world, we want everybody to have the chance to feel it for themselves.
How do we create RS communities?
For this to happen, we need strong communities around us. Fortunately, RS was born out of a small group of sailors in Cornwall who decided to follow their passion. They used the latest technology and newest designs to make higher performance more viable for most of us – but ultimately, to inspire more sailors. To this day, we hope that if we develop boats that we love to sail, then others will love them too!
We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for our amazing class events where our people can meet new friends. They’re organised by independent class associations who have characterised RS from the outset. Our ethos is to experience fantastic sailing on the water matched by a seriously good time ashore. We didn’t foresee what would happen but now we have strong communities that thrive as a result of their passion. For us, passion from within is what makes it easier for sailors to learn, race and invite new sailors to be a part of this lifestyle.
How does the RS community work in France?
We believe France is getting better year on year at fulfilling RS Sailing’s vision. With the success of their fleets nationwide and globally recognised events, participation is increasing rapidly. One of the main contributing reasons is that nearly every beach you go to has an opportunity to sail various types of boats (no matter what level you are!). We love this because it shows how having a pay as you go system can make sailing accessible for those in France and the many that visit. Not to mention how people can try new things and the way our boats can bring communities together through exploring. We asked Marie, who grew up with the French sailing lifestyle, what her favourite part of her experience was, she says,
“It’s just so adventurous, fun and accessible”
Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without our fantastic dealer and his team. Nico has been working with RS since 2009 and his passion for sailing never ceases to amaze us. If you’re looking into how you can get involved in sailing, reach out to Nico and his team on their Facebook or click here for more information.
