Are you excited for the RS Games 2022? We are, and we can’t wait to see you all again!
Running from the 21st of July to the 5th of August at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, we will have seven National Championships, one European and four World Championships! Our entry numbers are rising every day and with our highest recorded number of entries already surpassed, we know it’s going to be one hell of an event. From intense racing to our world-class socials and support on hand to make your experience the best it can be, you don’t want to miss it!
We’ve put together some tips for travelling* to the UK to ensure that you have a smooth and hassle-free journey.
- Make a travel pack for your car
Create a travel pack containing all the appropriate documents you need to be legally compliant in the UK; this will include your passport, driving license, vehicle registration document, insurance certificate, and emergency helpline numbers. Click here to find out which documents you may need to bring.
- Familiarise yourself with The Highway Code and check your headlights
- Check if you’re eligible for temporary admission
When you travel to the UK, your boat is assumed to be an import where VAT and duty are payable. This is the case unless you are eligible for temporary admission relief.
To be eligible, the boat must be registered outside the UK, the owner must be a resident outside the UK, whilst the boat is in the UK it must be used by a non-UK resident and the boat must be identifiable (registration number, name, hull identification number). If you are eligible, you can have your boat in the UK for up to 18 months. Apply here.
- Registering your boat
In some countries, it is already a legal requirement to register your boat in your country. However, if you haven’t already, look at your local Sailing Federation for support in registering your boat. This will also act as proof of ownership, however, we recommend you still bring an invoice as proof.
- Declaring you are trailing your boat into the UK
When you enter the UK with your boat on a trailer, you can make a declaration by conduct by driving through the green channel at the port of arrival. If you’re driving on the behalf of the owner, you must have a written consent from the owner.
- Planning your journey
We suggest you look at Brittany Ferries and EuroTunnel to see which route suits you best. You will also find support on their websites about what to bring if you’re unsure.
- Secure your entry for the 2022 RS Games here
Make the most of your time in the UK, check out some of our most scenic areas like Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Sussex and Kent.
