RS Sailing are honoured to be the Official Partner to the SailGP Inspire Program. SailGP is re-defining the sport of sailing as a completely new global sports series featuring bold, cutting-edge technology and awe-inspiring athleticism. SailGP Inspire is SailGP’s community, education and outreach initiative. Forging the future is our goal – by widening access to all, offering career pathways through sailing, and leaving a meaningful legacy wherever we go.
With 2020 just around the corner, the RS Sailing team are counting down the days (its 73 days and 11 hours – if you’re interested) until SailGP’s next stop kicks off in Sydney! The SailGP Inspire Program will be back in full force with the same clear goal, to forge the future for young sailors in our sport. The RS CAT14‘s are raring to go!
Here’s the SailGP Inspire stops for 2020 (and there’s more to follow);
- Sydney – 28/29 February
- San Francisco – 2/3 May
- New York – 12/13 June
- Cowes – 14/15 August
SailGP Inspire comprises of three innovative programs using sailing as an inspirational tool for teaching STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts and math) education.
The programs will give young people (ages 9-23) from all socioeconomic backgrounds equal life changing opportunities on and off the water customised to their age.
SailGP Inspire
SailGP INSPIRE has worked closely with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) to provide 18 local sailors, with a 50/50 gender participation rate, an opportunity to showcase their sailing talents in front of the grandstand as a prelude to the F50 racing. The sailors will race around a slalom course, provided by MarkSetBot, directly in front of the event village. This pre-show will be broadcasted live on event village tv.
SailGP Inspire Rippers
The SailGP INSPIRE Rippers programme aims to provide local school groups with the ultimate education experience through sailing. For two days leading up to the event 48 local school students will get a hands on learning experience using experiential STEAM education, problem solving and on the water sailing sessions. This will take place on August 8th and 9th with 24 students attending each day. The first half of the day will consist of onshore activations that demonstrate the science behind sailing and the afternoon will introduce them to sailing using RS CAT14s.
