Last weekend the first ever para sailing RS Venture Connect SCS cup took place at Witten Lake, Germany. The club provided four RS Venture Connect SCS boats, allowing sailors with and without disabilities to compete equally against each other. Sailors were teamed together inclusively, so that everyone had the opportunity to have fun sailing in the RS Ventures on an equal playing field.
On Saturday despite adverse wind conditions the sailors had an awesome day out on the water training, getting to know the boats, sailing area, racecourse and race rules. This was followed by a delicious barbeque at the club, where the sailors got to know each other and had a great sociable evening!
The Sunday kicked off with a buffet breakfast before an amazing day of racing. They sailed 14 races, with 18 sailors in 5 teams. The conditions were tough, but it was a very successful first German RS Venture Connect SCS event! The President of Schleswig-Holstein attended the award ceremony and personally awarded his donated prize to the winners. There were so many happy faces throughout the weekend and the organisers would like to thank all sailors and helpers who made this weekend so great! The event is even going to be broadcasted on German television this evening.
