Lakewood Yacht Club have placed an order for 12 RS21s. The RS21 has really set a new standard and quality within the world of small keelboats, the club are set to make the fleet available for a pay and play membership. The fleet will be used across a broad spectrum of racing including; match racing, team racing, league racing and fleet racing.
Ashley Walker, Commodore of Lakewood Yacht Club 2018, is thrilled with the new edition of the RS21s, commenting that “after a year of demo sailing and assessing all boats in the marketplace, Lakewood came to the conclusion that the RS21 is the best fit boat for their needs. Draft stability, price point and ease of use are all key factors contributing to our final decision.”
Mark McNamara, President of KO Sailing explained how “Lakewood have been talking about the possibility of a keelboat fleet for the purpose of drawing new and younger members to the club. For some time, the RS21 raised some eyebrows when it was launched. We sailed it and the smiles became big and wide. After racing it at Charleston Race Week, there was no turning back. The versatility of the RS21 and the excitement generated in sailing it, made this boat a serious contender. It really ticked all the boxes! By mid-July we gained the approval to move forward with the purchase of 12 matched RS21ss. The vision, and it is forward thinking, is to remove the burden of ownership and provide accessibility at a minimal cost. The programming is slated to include everything from learn to sail and fleet racing, to match racing and team racing for youth, women and adults. This seems to be the direction sailing, as we know it, is heading.”
The boats will be delivered in two batches of six during the fall of 2019 and over the coming months we will be announcing some exciting events hosted at Lakewood for the brand new RS21 fleet.
