Team Barton Boys
Who’s in the team?
Christian Brewer – Barton’s Sales Manager
“Christian starting sailing with his Dad at age three in a pram dinghy and progressed to his first dinghy aged twelve, a National 12 then into Lasers. He has since sailed off and on in a variety of ¼, ½ and ¾ ton yachts. Christian, and his friend Stuart, have won six J/24 National Championships, the XOD Captains Cup seven times and he has won two National and one European Championships in the Condor Catamaran class. In 1983, Christian was selected to the British Sailing Team in the Tornado Class, was Tornado Olympic Squad member in 1988 and Olympic Reserve that year for the Korea Games. He claims to have raced nearly every UK based One Design class at National level from his time running the keelboat One Design divisions at Hood Sailmakers and Hyde Sails. He holds an ICC and powerboat level 2 certificates and has cruised extensively around the Globe including the Seychelles, Caribbean and Polynesia. To say he likes sailing is an understatement.”
Dermot Bealey – Barton’s Production and Operations Manager
“I initially learnt to sail as a teenager in the Scouts on GP14 dinghies and then moved on to owning a Laser. I moved into offshore sailing with the purchase of a quarter share of a Leisure 22 sailing boat based on the Menai Straits of North Wales. I raced offshore for about 10 years crewing on a friends Sigma 33 and latterly an SJ320. Subsequently, I chose a wife based on the fact that she owned a Contessa 32. As the family has grown this has been upgraded to a Maxi 1000. This is based in Kent and is used for both weekend trips and family holidays travelling up and down both sides of the North Sea.”
Pete Pollard – Barton Assembly Engineer and Operations Coordinator
“I started sailing when I was 10 years old on a scorpion as crew and fell in love with the sport. I have been sailing at Tankerton Bay Sailing Club ever since. When I was about 12 years old, I started sailing toppers and lasers for couple of years and then a sailor on a Dart 18 asked me to come and crew and I loved it! So, the same day I got a Hurricane Condor for the price of £50! After taking about 4 layers of old paint off it, and then painting it black, I called her Asis. The first time racing her I won the series! I work in the marine industry and sail every Sunday and love the sport more and more. Now I sail a Diam 18, F18 and Dart 18. If it floats, I will try and sail it! I love the 24 years of sailing I have done – and more to come!”
Harry Newton – We are very proud to include on our team our 2020 – 2021 Barton Rising Star who is attending his first ever Trade Event for Barton Marine!! Harry is 18 and was chosen as our Barton Rising Star from dozens of young applicants in the UK who wanted to augment their sailing career and expertise by becoming an Ambassador for Barton Marine. After a year of not being able to attend Boat Shows or trade events, he is on our team and will help to bring home the Cup!
“Harry has been sailing Toppers since he was nine years old and after joining Kent Sailing School Association in 2016 has taken part in multiple race series including the Traveller, National and World Topper championships. Winning a place on the RYA Topper London and South East Zone Squad in 2017/18 followed by the ITCA National 5.3 Topper Squad in 2018/19. Harry raced at the 5.3 Topper Worlds in Medemblik, Netherlands in August 2019. Upon returning from the Worlds Harry switched class and began racing in the UKLA Laser Series with a goal of achieving a place on the national squad and winning a gold medal at the Olympics. Harry has now gone into a Laser standard and hoping to get on the laser GBR team at the end of this year.”
