Shortlisted for the 2024 Olympic Equipment Evaluation
The RS Aero was recognized as a modern innovative single hander that is interesting to current sailors, with strong manufacturer support. Besides the current Olympic Dinghy, the RS Aero has the most international and largest fleet of all the boats on the short list with over 2,000 boats sold internationally and 205 boats from 16 Nations at the 2018 World Championships. On March 11-15th, 2019 each interested National body will send up to 2 sailors to Valencia, Spain to evaluate the 4 boats on the shortlist and evaluate which boat is most appropriate for the 2024 Single-handed Olympic Dinghy. The RS Aero will be evaluated with the two larger rigs currently offered, the RS Aero 7 (77 Sq. Ft) RS Aero 9 (93 Sq. Ft.). At 66 pounds, the RS Aero hull is half the weight of the other boats on the list making it more manageable on and off the water, allowing a wider range of sailors to sail the boat competitively. The other boats being evaluated are the Laser with the current Radial and Standard sail options, Melges 14, and Devoti D-Zero.
