Enrico Loi (Windsurfing Club Cagliari) wins the Under 17 RS Aero 5 Class, and Davide Mulas (LNI Sulcis) wins the Under 22 RS Aero 6 Class, at the RS Aero Italian Youth Championship in Cagliari.
Organised by Lega Navale di Cagliari, the event was hosted at Marina Piccola. The RS Aero Italian Youth Championships started off in the best way possible on a beautiful morning of Mistral. The first two races blew with gusts up to 20 knots. All-in-all, the fleets got in ten races total with both light and more sustained winds. The varying conditions allowed everyone to demonstrate their capabilities – and competition was high!
The final ranking was played until the very last race. Winning the title was sweated for with a constant change of positions – especially during the last day’s last four races, which left the championship open until the end.
Italian Under 17 RS Aero 5 title went to Enrico Loi, who could no longer make a mistake considering the disqualification for an early start on Saturday. Loi won just 5 points ahead of Gallurian Riccardo Serra (Olbia, YC Cala dei Sardi), while 3rd went to Romagnolo Mattia Mountains (CN Rimini). Giacomo Zanzini (CN Rimini) descended to 4th place and Andrea Manconi (Windsurfing Club Cagliari) in 5th place. Chiara Sussarello was 1st among the girls.
The Italian Under 22 RS Aero 6 title went to Davide Mulas. He extended by 6 points over the two pursuers from YC Cala dei Sardi, Francesco Columbano and Andrea De Matteis, who got silver and bronze respectively. Despite the final day’s excellent races of 1-3-2-1, Giacomo Gatta (CN Savio) did not manage to rise up in the general ranking and finished in 4th, ahead of Elia Nonnis (LNI Sulcis) in 5th place.

The Under 22 RS Aero 6 was a new class this year at the RS Aero Italian Youth Championship, with the new RS Aero 6 sail. The iridescent title will also be recognized at next year’s 2024 RS Aero Youth World Cup in Sweden.
Congratulations to the FIV Regatta Committee and all the water staff of the Cagliari Naval League. Especially for the last day, where they took advantage of all the wind possible, managing to compete 4 races. Thanks for the hospitality and organization and congratulations to all the winners, their respective coaches and families!
Next, the RS Aero Class makes an appointment at the end of the month again in Cagliari for the RS Aero European Youth Team Race Championships, which will be organized by the Naval League Sulcis section in collaboration with Canottieri Ichnusa. They are expecting at least 8 mixed teams (with one boy and one girl in each team) from all over Europe.
