The fifth RS Aero World Championships is all set for Calasetta this week, gracing the shoreline from the 26th-30th July. This year’s edition also welcomes the RS Aero Youth Worlds.
Perched on the south-western island of Sant’Antioco, Calasetta is perhaps one of Sardinia’s best-kept secrets, far away from the better-known tourist routes. The town is steeped in fascinating history, maritime traditions, Mediterranean cuisine, idyllic beaches – and the sailing is fabulous! The fast-growing RS Aero fleets (on the Italian mainland and Sardinia combined) alongside this dreamy location has enticed 140 entries from 19 nations.
Hosted by Lega Navale Sulcis, the five days of racing will see up to 14 races take place on the emerald waters off Sant’Antioco. The prevailing wind is the Mistral from the northwest which can come in strong in the afternoons with waves quickly building across the racetrack. There will be racing in four fleets, RS Aero 5,6,7 & 9, with the Youths’, Women’s and Masters’ categories all contested from within those overall results.
RS Sailing have provided a 41-strong charter fleet of RS Aeros, all pre-prepped and ready to sail, enabling long-haul international travellers to compete easily!
World Championship sponsors include RS Sailing, Rooster and Seldén. Participants will be kept hydrated in the Sardinia heat by local water sponsor S.Giorgio, whose generous support helps make championships like this possible.
The regatta village will be humming with activity and Calasetta’s main square is brimming with cafes, bars and restaurants – all excited to welcome sailors from around the world. No one will need to look far to share their experiences after an exciting day on the water.
Stay up-to-date with the competitors on the entry list and, when available, results will be listed here.
