Sailing has always been popular in France, both casual and competitive, but the quality of learning to sail is getting better! Since the RS CAT16 entered the French market in 2014 and the RS CAT14 in 2018, sailors, instructors and families have fallen in love with their contemporary and user-friendly designs. So much so, the RS CAT16 won the ‘Coup de Cœur’ at the Paris Boat Show in 2014 & 2015! These training catamarans have modernised the sailing landscape within France around the coasts and across the mountains. Simply everybody wants in on the action and people can’t stop talking about it!
One of the reasons behind their success? The dealer. The face behind RS France is Nicolas and his team, claiming years of experience on the dinghy market & sailing scene. They are so bubbly and friendly that any interaction with them is sure to sway you into loving the RS collections! Their passion for getting people involved in sailing has helped to fill educational environments like sailing schools, activity centres and French beaches with the perfect training and recreational catamaran. Popular across the whole nation, they have never been more accessible to beginners, families and holiday makers but without RS France, backed up by RS HQ in UK, the success of the RS CATs wouldn’t have been possible.
After speaking with the French team, we agreed that the designers of the RS CAT14 and CAT16 did a super job! Despite RS Sailing being well-known for their racing and performance boats, they successfully designed a performing dinghy but brought back all best features of the traditional catamaran. In particular, their simplicity and easy handling. Nico thinks that “they are modern and simple, pleasant to sail and RS give a complete, all-inclusive service to buyers”. The fact that the RS CAT hulls are joined by beams which can be quickly disassembled for storage or transport is what makes these boats ideal for sport centres. Not only do the high buoyancy of the hulls allow for forgiving handling, but the stiffness encourages crisps and rewards with exciting performance. Where the RS CAT14 is small enough to go single-handed, but large enough for a family cruise. The RS CAT16 is the ideal choice for a family day out on the water, maybe even a picnic? Durability, convenience and excitement are the hallmarks of the RS CATs. It’s safe to say that the RS CATs have been an absolute whirlwind in France and are changing the future of getting involved and learning how to sail.
