RS Sailing announces its partnership with American league racing organisation the Premier Sailing League. An exciting tour of stadium style, high spectator focused league sailing will commence from October at Annapolis MD during the United States Sailboat Show.
Competed in a fleet of brand new identical RS21 One Design keelboats, the PSL stadium sailing marks the second continent to use RS21 for the all inclusive pay and play sailing format following the success with using the RS21 on the British Keelboat League circuit in the United Kingdom.
Stadium sailing at carefully chosen venues allows a league racing format that is easily viewed and followed by those watching from ashore along with detailed commentary. The format allows teams of sailors to enter high calibre events at exciting locations and join in racing without the need and cost of owning, servicing or transporting a race prepared one-design sailboat. Fast flowing, short races keep the events compact and interesting.
The RS21 One Design with masthead asymmetric gennaker, carbon mast, mylar North sails and Harken deck gear is a joy to sail and configured for to challenge the skill of 4 sailors while being forgiving enough to allow those not entirely familiar with the boat the ability to compete.
PSL President Benjamin Klatzka noted “Choosing the RS21 for the Premier Sailing League was an easy choice. A great balance of performance and ease of use, huge fun to sail and the ability to fit 6 boats into a shipping container to enable economical and sustainable movements of the boats between events”.
The first batch of British built RS21s will arrive in Annapolis MD late Summer in time for their first assignment at the inaugural Premier Sailing League event. Subsequent fleets will complete the geographic strength for the League across the country and allow District level events that culminate in regional and final a national finale.
RS Sailing VP Riki Hooker said “The first event at Annapolis will mark the exciting start for the PSL, and RS Sailing is delighted to be a partner in the journey to show this new and entirely accessible style of sailing to America. This is just what the RS21 does best so building fleets across the country to grow pay and play sailing is something RS Sailing can proudly add to its portfolio of amazing events and opportunities to get afloat all over the world”.
