We are just six weeks away from the 2022 RS Venture Connect World Championship hosted by Oman Sail. When planning the event, there was no guarantee that enough teams would sign up for the event to be run. However, both organisations believed that the Oman Sail venue in Mussanah would be accessible for international travel, providing a beautiful location for the participants not just to sail but a place where those accompanying them could relax and unwind. Fast forward 12 months, and the event registration website says, “Due to capacity, the event entry is now closed.” From November 23rd to 27th 2022, 36 teams will come together and represent 19 nations worldwide in the RS Venture Connect, with six teams on the waiting list!
Team Greece will be joining us, here’s what they had to say.
“Team Greece is very excited and is looking forward to participating in the 2022 RS Venture Connect World Championship hosted by Oman Sail this fall. The team members go a long way back, sailing consistently for years with Sonars, representing Greece – with success – at World and Paralympic levels. Vasilis Christoforou (quadriplegic) is coupled by Thodoris Alexas (leg amputee), and Akis Tsarouchis coach the team. All three actively work locally to grow disabled sailing in the country and back World Sailing’s bid to reinstate sailing in the 2028 Paralympics. Thus, investing in yet another modern and sporty class for the disabled seemed like a logical step to grow awareness and urge more disabled people to try the sport!”
