Following the postponement of the 2020 Brewin Dolphin RS Elite International Grand Prix, we are delighted it will finally be taking place this year! This will be the largest gathering of RS Elites on record. Hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes, this event will hold the UK National Championship and an invitational International Regatta for overseas entries. A new trophy will be awarded for the International Regatta in addition to the National Championship. We are expecting between 40 and 50 entries for the event taking place from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 June 2022. Click here to enter!
Designer Phil Morrison designed this as a strictly controlled one-design traditional racing keelboat. The fleet has grown rapidly from its original base at Hayling Island, UK fleets have established themselves in Cowes, Burnham-on-Crouch, Belfast Lough, Strangford Lough and Guernsey. International fleets have spread across Antigua, Norway, Italy, Germany and North America. The keelboat attracted top sailors, including Olympic medallists, world and national champions.
The Brewin Dolphin RS Elite International Grand Prix 2022 is going to be spectacular. Event organiser Charlie Egerton-Warburton has been working tirelessly for the last four years to ensure that this event takes place and supersedes expectations. Without Charlie’s exceptional efforts we would not be where we are now with a very healthy entry. British financial services group Brewin Dolphin has been named the headline sponsor and supporting this event as the official clothing supplier is Toio, an Italian sailing clothing company.
This is not the first time the RS Elites will hold a championship at the Royal Yacht Squadron. The highly successful UK National Championship in 2012 attracted over 40 boats and given the steady growth of the class over the years, we are looking forward to welcoming at least 42 boats this year, with two more weeks to go for more entries!
Racing will be conducted from a committee boat in the Solent, with three races planned for the first three days and a single race on the last day. We will also be holding a ‘race to start’ charitable fund-raising prior to the championship racing. RS Elite sailors have a reputation for being super social and knowing how to party. Hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron, there will be fabulous off-water entertainment, guaranteeing a great time on and off the water throughout the event. The full social programme is available here to see and will include a formal class dinner in the Royal Yachting Squadron pavilion and various other themed evenings.
Entry is now open via the Royal Yachting Squadron website.
