The New York Yacht Club’s Resolute Cup has begun! Considered one of the most prestigious amateur regattas in the world, teams from each of North America’s top sailing clubs compete for the highly coveted title. This year’s competition is being raced in both the Sonar and the RS21. Designed with your everyday sailor in mind, the RS21 was a perfect choice for this competition. As a super exciting one design platform, the boat is great for the future for sailors and clubs who want to take the next step from traditional displacement boats. There will always be a great need for displacement boats, and sport boats are very exciting, but the RS21 fits right in the middle to provide the best of both worlds in an approachable, well-balanced platform.
RS Sailing is a company built by and with the support of amateur sailors. The RS21 is our pathway to give those sailors access to a global platform that is well suited for any style of sailboat racing including one-design, match racing, and team racing. We are very grateful to The New York Yacht Club for sharing and supporting our vision by providing boats for the 2022 Resolute Cup. We are certain that after one week of sailing the RS21 the sailors will share our passion for the boats.
In fact, two of the clubs competing in the Resolute Cup currently have fleets of RS21s, Lakewood Yacht Club and San Francisco Yacht Club. Lakewood received their fleet of twelve boats in 2019 as a way to engage with younger members. San Francisco Yacht Club took their delivery of six brand new RS21s in 2021. Below are some of the thoughts from the clubs on the 21!
“When our fleet of RS21s first splashed at SFYC, Members had a vision of these boats being used every day, by every skill-level of sailor.”
“While the RS21 fleet may look intimidating, they are actually friendly little boats.”
“They are such fun boats, whether match racing or going out with the family for a lively sail, our members love them!”
