The RS100, launched in 2010, is celebrating its 10th birthday this year. When the boat was launched in 2010 it received a hot welcome from the dinghy sailing fraternity, sweeping awards everywhere it went including “Sailing World Boat of the Year” and “Yachts & Yachting Dinghy of the Year”
The RS100 has a pure racing pedigree, with an Epoxy GRP hull construction coupled with carbon fibre spars providing a light-weight package which offers exhilarating performance. An extensive sailor weight range is catered for as three different sail sizes are available all on the same size rig.
The first RS100 UK National Championships had a healthy entry of 43 boats, which helped the sale of 100 units in the first 12 months since the boat launch. European events quickly followed along with the rapid growth of international fleets. As the fleet continued to grow, the boat enjoyed events in legendary locations, such as Lake Garda, Italy and Carnac, France.
Ten years on the RS100 class is still very active, with a well attended UK and International circuit. For its 10th anniversary, the UK class will be visiting some fantastic venues. Royal Torbay YC (Winner of the 2019 Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year award) will host the Summer Championships alongside other RS classes. The fleet will also be heading to the beautiful Lake District for their Inlands held at Royal Windermere Yacht Club. And To finish off what will no doubt be a superb summer for the RS100, the UK Nationals will be held at South Caernarvonshire YC (otherwise known as Abersoch). If you haven’t competed at Abersoch, then you are missing out so make sure this event is on your list.
If you would like to get involved with the RS100, then please visit the RS100 Class Association page here, where the RS Association Admin team will be able to answer any questions you may have. There is also a very active Facebook page where current owners share their top tips. Used boats are available on the market at the minute, so if you are looking for a route into the fleet, there are certainly options out there.
