We’re a bunch of passionate sailors here at RS and we didn’t feel like we could let the Tokyo Olympic Games pass us by without celebrating the amazing sailors representing the pinnacle of dinghy sailing in our sport.
The tenacity and grit they have shown over the last few weeks and the gruelling 5-year campaign they have committed to, through lockdowns and huge uncertainty, celebrates everything that’s special about the top end of our sport. They are a truly inspiring group of sailors, surrounded by a wider team of incredible people that make Olympic Sailing Teams so extraordinary.
To the Olympic sailors that we’ve been lucky enough to be a small part of their journey, we’re really, really proud!
What’s the point in this blog post you ask? Well, it’s been a tough old year and for many of us and getting out on the water is at times our only solace. The team at RS have been watching the early morning medal races, PJ’s on and with a cup of tea trembling in our hands. We have been emotional wrecks at certain points – a) because the British Sailing Team really do seem to thrive in sailing medal races with agonisingly close finishes and b) because you can’t help but feel hugely emotional and get completely behind the sailors who give everything they’ve got to make their dreams come true!
So we really hope that you’ve all been inspired to get out on the water; race hard, learn new skills, challenge yourself, make mistakes, support your local club, start on the front row, love sailing again as fiercely as our National Sailing Teams do and enjoy every moment of being out on the water because medals or not, we’re all so lucky to be a part of this amazing sport!
